Last week I attended the Neil Diamond concert at the BB&T Center in Sunrise. This was my 4th time seeing Neil Diamond. Well, let me just say – he has not lost a beat. He sounded better than ever! He came on stage at 8:05 p.m. and did not stop singing until 10:20 p.m. He did not have an opening act, nor was there an intermission.
He had his full band with him along with two female back-up singers, who were fabulous. His stage design and lighting were fabulous as well. It included a screen which projected images relating to his songs. During his singing of Brooklyn Roads, the screen projected street scenes of Brooklyn as well as Neil as a small boy and growing up to manhood. During his singing of Coming to America, the screen projected the American Flag…it was quite a sight and brought the house up on its feet. He did 3 encores of Sweet Caroline and invited the audience to sing along with him….which of course we obliged.
Being from Brooklyn myself, each time he mentioned Brooklyn, I cheered along with all those from my hometown….and another interesting fact….Neil Diamond graduated from the same high school as I did….Erasmus….along with Barbra Streisand and Kenny Vance.
If you ever have the opportunity to attend a Neil Diamond concert, take it from me….don’t miss it!
