The tech boom in Miami is expected to continue through the beginning of 2018. The city ranks ninth for tech hiring in the Robert Half Technology IT Hiring Forecast and Local Trend Report.
Technology executives across the country are anticipating strong IT hiring across the country with 21 percent of CIOs nationwide saying they plan to add full-time technology professionals to their team in the first half of 2018, which is up 5 percentage points from this time last year.
The top three skills in greatest demand in Miami according to respondents are network administration (52 percent), business intelligence (46 percent) and telecommunications support (46 percent). However, 54 percent of CIOs in Miami said it’s difficult to find skilled IT professionals in the market.
“Miami CIOs are looking for tech candidates with experience in web and software development, and database engineers and help desk professionals,” said Matthew Bourdeau, regional manager for Robert Half Technology in Miami. “Local healthcare and insurance companies are seeking systems administrators as well as professionals to take on cloud-based projects and initiatives.”
Additionally, 29 percent of Miami CIOs said they are focused on maintaining security of IT systems and safeguarding company information, while 22 percent will prioritize upgrading existing systems for business efficiency and 20 percent will be working on technology innovation and investing in new technologies.
“Skilled candidates are receiving multiple job offers and are weighing their options before accepting an offer, while employers are beginning to increase their budgets to match hiring trends and peer compensation in both tech and non-technical companies,” Bourdeau continued. “Those candidates with the most in-demand skillsets are accepting job offers based on compensation, commute and tech stack – and in that order.”
